Administration Seizes Over 2 Tonnes Harmful meat transporting to Peshawar
PESHAWAR, Mar 29: The Peshawar district authorities seized a large quantity of unfit meat and apprehended four individuals, including a bus driver, in connection with the illegal transportation.
Acting on a tip-off, the Assistant Commissioner of Hassan Khel, under the Peshawar district administration's supervision, intercepted a passenger bus traveling from Punjab on the Grand Trunk (GT) Road. Upon inspection, a disturbing discovery was made.
The bus was found to be transporting over 2,000 kilograms of unfit meat, including kidneys, hooves, buffalo heads, brains, and other related items. These items were deemed hazardous for human consumption by the Livestock Department's laboratory.
Authorities suspect the seized meat was intended for use in preparing popular street food items like shawarma and burgers, raising concerns about hygiene standards. This operation highlights the district administration's efforts to combat such practices that pose a significant health risk to the public.
In a separate incident at the Motorway Interchange, another team intercepted a container transporting adulterated milk. The unfit milk was promptly disposed of, and the driver responsible for its delivery was arrested.
