Aitzaz Ahsan criticizes PML-N's approach, warns against misusing Article 6
ISLAMABAD, July 16: Renowned jurist and senior political leader Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan has expressed concern over the declining state of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), asserting that political parties cannot be dismantled through bans.
In various TV interviews, Ahsan emphasized that Article 6 is a serious constitutional provision and should not be used frivolously. "Article 6 is not a child's toy. It should be imposed on the Election Commission and the government, not on everyone. The Chief Election Commissioner should be held accountable," he stated. He also criticized PML-N leaders, including Nawaz Sharif, suggesting they are vulnerable if scrutinized.
Addressing the issue of banning Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Ahsan argued that such a decision should be made by the Supreme Court, not the government. He predicted that a full court would review the appeal against special seats, where the government would have to present evidence. "PTI will summon IG Punjab in the Supreme Court, and the truth will come out. PML-N is falling into a trap," he warned.
Ahsan expressed surprise at PML-N's current strategy, suggesting that someone within the party is misleading the government. He noted that many PTI leaders are being acquitted in various cases, hinting at flawed legal strategies from PML-N. "It's foolish to file this reference. If they seek advice, PPP will guide them better," he concluded.
This critical analysis from a prominent legal and political figure adds another layer to the ongoing political debates and challenges facing Pakistan's major parties.
