Bilawal Bhutto's Nomination Papers Face Challenge in NA-127, Decision Reserved

Lahore: Lawyers for Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari presented arguments today in response to an objection filed against his nomination papers for the upcoming general elections. The Returning Officer in Lahore's NA-127 constituency has reserved the decision after hearing both sides.

The objection, filed by a citizen named Muhammad Ayaz, claims that Bilawal Bhutto's commitment to the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPP-P) in his nomination papers violates the Election Act 2017. The argument hinges on the distinction between the PPP and PPP-P as separate political parties with distinct symbols: a sword for the PPP and an arrow for the PPP-P.

Ayaz further contends that according to the Act, an individual can only be a member of one party at a time. While Bilawal serves as Chairman of the PPP, his father, Asif Zardari, leads the PPP-P as President. This alleged dual affiliation forms the basis of the objection.

During the hearing, Bilawal's lawyer, Irfan Qadir, argued his client's position. The Returning Officer allowed time for a written reply to be submitted by Friday before reserving the decision.
