Caretaker cabinet approves amendment to grant autonomy in electricity and gas tariff decisions

ISLAMABAD, Feb 28: The caretaker federal cabinet has made a crucial decision regarding electricity and gas prices, aiming to streamline the process and eliminate government intervention.

According to media reports, the Cabinet has greenlit amendments to the NEPRA and OGRA Acts, paving the way to remove the government's role in the notification of electricity and gas tariffs. With these amendments, NEPRA and OGRA will now have the authority to issue tariff notifications independently, without requiring government approval.

Government sources have confirmed that the federal cabinet has sanctioned the amendments, empowering NEPRA and OGRA to handle tariff notifications autonomously. These measures were approved by the supervisory federal cabinet through circulation.

This decision marks a significant step towards enhancing efficiency and transparency in the determination of electricity and gas tariffs, ushering in a new era of regulatory independence in the energy sector.
