Child Protection Bureau Rescues Over 10,000 Children Across Punjab in 2023

LAHORE, Jan 04: The Child Protection Bureau in Punjab successfully rescued a staggering 10,140 children during the year 2023. The data reveals a focused approach, with 2962 children saved in Lahore, 1295 in Gujranwala, 1345 in Faisalabad, 1219 in Rawalpindi, 890 in Multan, 798 in Sahiwal, 1023 in Sialkot, 390 in Bahawalpur, and 218 in Rahimyar Khan.

Chairperson of the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau, Sara Ahmed, reported that 8892 children were reunited with their parents last year. Notably, the Bureau successfully traced over 600 missing children, bringing them back to their families. Moreover, more than 200 children, who were victims of torture and abuse, were taken into protective custody.

Sarah Ahmed shared that the Child Helpline 1121 received a total of 3654 calls in 2023, leading to the intervention and custody of 1035 children. The establishment of Child Protection Units in Kasur and Rajanpur during the same year further strengthened the Bureau's outreach.

Expressing satisfaction with the overall performance, Ahmed conveyed optimism for the new year, anticipating continued success in their vital mission.
