China to Establish Technical Training Centres for Pakistani Youth

In a significant move aimed at enhancing the employability of Pakistani youth, China has announced plans to set up technical training centres across Pakistan. This initiative, unveiled during a meeting between Pakistan’s Secretary of Education, Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, and a Chinese delegation led by Wang Dang, Chairman of CIIC Technology Group, is designed to align the skills of Pakistani youth with the employment needs of Chinese companies involved in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.

Fostering Skill Development for CPEC Opportunities

The planned technical centres will focus on equipping young Pakistanis with the specialized skills required for jobs generated by CPEC, one of the largest infrastructure projects in the region. Secretary Wani highlighted the growing demand for skilled labor, emphasizing that the establishment of these centres will provide a critical opportunity for Pakistan’s workforce to meet the evolving needs of CPEC-related industries.

Addressing Educational Challenges

Secretary Wani also took the opportunity to outline the challenges facing Pakistan’s education system, including those exacerbated by climate change. He discussed the government’s ongoing initiatives aimed at improving the education infrastructure, including better access to schools, teacher training programs, and student welfare measures such as nutrition schemes. These efforts are designed to ensure that youth are not only trained in technical skills but also supported holistically as they enter the workforce.

Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

Wang Dang expressed China’s full support for Pakistan’s educational vision and emphasized the importance of continued bilateral cooperation in the education sector. He highlighted the potential of Pakistan’s young workforce, underscoring how the technical training centres will be pivotal in unlocking this potential, especially as CPEC-related projects continue to grow.

The establishment of these technical training centres marks a new chapter in Sino-Pakistani educational cooperation. By addressing skills gaps and providing targeted training, this initiative aims to prepare Pakistan’s youth for the job opportunities arising from the CPEC project, ultimately strengthening the economic ties between the two countries.
