Court Issues Warning Over Obstructions in Imran Khan's Jail Meetings
Islamabad: Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan has issued a written order regarding obstacles faced by former Prime Minister Imran Khan in meeting with his lawyers at Adiala Jail.
The court has warned the Advocate General and the Superintendent of Adiala Jail against hindering Khan's consultations with his legal team. The order stipulates that any future interference in these meetings will result in immediate contempt of court proceedings.
The written order notes that if similar incidents occur again, the current order will be formally considered a contempt notice. The Superintendent of the Jail had submitted a list of Khan's jail meetings and reported that obstructions were being placed in the way of these meetings, with lawyers having to walk long distances to reach the prison.
The order also highlighted concerns about the use of glass barriers and police officers standing by to overhear conversations during visits. The court expressed surprise at these restrictions and affirmed that the jail's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) should be followed without altering scheduled meetings for lawyers and other visitors.
Additionally, the court granted a request from Khan’s legal team to review the meeting schedules and adjourned the case until September 13.
