Customs Foils Attempt to Smuggle 4,000 Kg of Betel Nuts into Karachi
KARACHI: Pakistan Customs Enforcement successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 4,000 kg of betel nuts into Karachi from Balochistan. The operation was conducted as part of the ongoing anti-smuggling campaign, following a tip-off about the illicit consignment.
According to Customs Collector Basit Abbasi, the smuggled betel nuts, valued at approximately Rs. 4 million, were concealed in a truck loaded with hay. The vehicle, bearing registration number TKC012, was intercepted and searched at the Humdard Check Post, leading to the discovery of the contraband.
The truck has been seized, a case registered, and the betel nuts moved to the Anti-Smuggling Organization's (ASO) warehouse. Further investigations are underway.
