Danish Taimoor Apologizes for Polygamy Comments Amid Backlash
Pakistani actor Danish Taimoor has issued an apology after his remarks about polygamy during a recent Ramadan TV show triggered widespread backlash.
Taimoor, who appeared alongside his wife, actress Ayeza Khan, made controversial comments regarding polygamy, stating that Islamic law permits men to marry up to four women. His remark, “I am allowed to marry four times, but that’s a different story for now,” sparked outrage, especially with his use of the term “filhal” (for now), which suggested that polygamy could be a future option.
The actor’s comments raised concerns among viewers, particularly when he added that he was making this statement in front of Khan, emphasizing his love and respect for her, which led some to believe he was disrespecting his wife. The controversy quickly escalated across social media platforms, with many condemning the statement.
In response to the criticism, Taimoor took to Instagram, addressing his fans and clarifying his position. “I know many of you are upset with me. I never intended to disrespect my wife, and that was not the purpose of my words,” Taimoor said in his video message. He explained that the word “filhal” is something he commonly uses in his daily conversations to reference the present moment. “We talk about the present, and I believe that we are not in this world forever,” he added.
The actor admitted that his choice of words was unfortunate, acknowledging that he should have been more careful. “Maybe it was a slip of the tongue, and I understand that my words may have been misinterpreted,” he said. Taimoor further expressed regret for causing any distress to his wife and fans, emphasizing that his 18-year career had been free of controversy.
“I want to assure you all that I did not have any ill intentions. Ayeza and I are very happy together, and I appreciate your support,” Taimoor concluded.
Taimoor and Khan, one of Pakistan’s most beloved celebrity couples, married in 2014 and have two children. The couple has been together for over a decade, maintaining a strong presence in the entertainment industry.
