Defeat for Fazlur Rehman, Jahangir Tareen, Pervez Khattak in General Elections

ISLAMABAD, Feb 09: Prominent figures Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Jahangir Tareen, and Pervez Khattak faced defeat in the recent general elections, while Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif, and Maryam Nawaz emerged victorious.

Unofficial results reveal that PML-N stalwarts Mian Nawaz Sharif, Mian Shahbaz Sharif, and Maryam Nawaz secured National Assembly seats, contrasting with the losses suffered by JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman, Stability Pakistan Party leader Jahangir Tareen, and PTI parliamentarian Pervez Khattak.

Maulana Fazlur Rahman, contesting from his native constituency in 2024, conceded victory to Ali Amin Gandapur in Dera Ismail Khan. Gandapur, running as an independent candidate, clinched victory with 92,612 votes, leaving Maulana Fazlur Rehman behind with 59,364 votes.

Jahangir Tareen, chief of the Stability Pakistan Party, suffered defeats in both the Lodhran and Multan National Assembly seats. In Multan, PTI-backed candidate Aamir Dogar emerged victorious, while in Lodhran, PML-N's Siddique Khan Baloch secured the win with 117,671 votes, defeating Tareen who received 71,128 votes.

Former Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and PTI parliamentarian Pervez Khattak faced similar setbacks, losing in both the National and Provincial Assembly races. Additionally, former KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan also tasted defeat. Khattak's defeat came at the hands of independent candidate Khaleeq-ur-Rehman in PP-87 Nowshera, where he only managed to secure 762 votes.

The election results mark a significant shift in the political landscape, with winners and losers alike reshaping the future trajectory of Pakistani politics.
