ECP Demands Rigging Allegations Report against PTI's Umar Ayub
Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has requested a detailed report from the District Returning Officer (DRO) regarding rigging allegations against PTI leader and Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly, Umar Ayub.
During the hearing, the petitioner's counsel argued that Umar Ayub had anticipated the use of bogus votes in the election and had filed a complaint with the DRO on February 7. The counsel questioned the DRO’s actions following this complaint and insisted that a report be obtained to clarify the situation.
An Election Commission member mentioned that two reports are available, one from the National Assembly and the other from the Provincial Assembly. In response, Umar Ayub’s lawyer criticized the petitioner's tendency to bring new requests at each hearing, while the petitioner's counsel called for the election results of the constituency to be declared null and void.
The Election Commission has postponed the case hearing to August 6, pending the DRO's report.
