ECP issues notice to JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman over intra-party elections
ISLAMABAD, Aug 28: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a notice to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) for failing to hold intra-party elections and has summoned party chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to appear tomorrow (Thursday) at 10 a.m.
A four-member commission, led by ECP member Nisar Durrani, will hear the case against JUI-F for not conducting intra-party elections or submitting the required certificate to the Election Commission. This follows a recent ECP decision to strip Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of its electoral symbol for a similar violation.
Additionally, the ECP has issued notices to Balochistan National Party (Mengal) leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal, Awami National Party President Aimal Wali Khan, and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, summoning them on September 4 for failing to allocate 5% of their tickets to women candidates in the 2024 elections.
Notices have also been issued to the heads of 12 political parties, including Tehreek-e-Labbaik chief Saad Rizvi and Pakistan Awami Tehreek leader Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, over non-compliance with Section 206 of the Election Act concerning female candidate representation.
