ECP suspends, investigates NA-95 returning officer for Absence

LAHORE, Feb 07: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken swift action against Returning Officer (RO) Rana Muhammad Iqbal (NA- 95) for his "deliberate illegal absence" from his designated duties in Faisalabad. This development comes amidst heightened scrutiny and preparations for the upcoming general elections.

The ECP spokesperson confirmed that RO NA 95 has been immediately suspended from his position as RO in Faisalabad. Additionally, an inquiry has been initiated to investigate the reasons behind his absence.
The ECP has also ordered the suspension and inquiry into the conduct of Assistant Returning Officer (AC) for Chak Jhamra, whose mobile phone was reportedly switched off. This suggests potential neglect of responsibilities.

To ensure continuity in electoral operations, Dr. Isfinder Yar, Chief Executive Officer of the District Health Authority in Faisalabad, has been appointed as the new returning officer.

While the specific reasons for RONA 95's absence remain unclear, the ECP's prompt action suggests it views the matter with seriousness. Deliberate absence from such a critical role could be linked to various factors, including potential misconduct, negligence, or attempts to disrupt the electoral process.

The ECP's decisive action sends a strong message that it will not tolerate any irregularities or attempts to compromise the integrity of the elections. The swift suspension and investigation underscore the Commission's commitment to ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections.

It remains to be seen what the inquiry into RO NA 95's and AC Chak Jhamra's conduct will reveal. The ECP's findings and any subsequent disciplinary actions will be closely monitored by the public and stakeholders involved in the electoral process.
