Election Officials Suspended Over Karachi Strongroom Scandal

ISLAMABAD, (NH): Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja has suspended three election officials for 120 days due to incompetence and disorder related to recent electoral activities.

According to an official notification from the Election Commission, Provincial Election Commissioner Sindh Sharifullah, Director Administration Election Commission Sindh Azhar Hussain Tanwari, and Election Officer Karachi Khuda Bakhsh have all been placed on leave. They are instructed to remain in Karachi until the completion of an inquiry and further orders.

The Election Commission has established a committee to investigate the incident that occurred on the night of September 17, when strongroom locks in Papri, Karachi, were forcibly broken, damaging bags from various polling stations.

The inquiry committee consists of Joint Provincial Election Commissioner Sindh Nazar Abbas, Director Waseem Ahmed, and REC Larkana Abdul Wahid. The committee is expected to complete its investigation and submit a report within three days.
