Election tribunals approves Asad Qaiser, Taimur Jhagra nomination papers
Islamabad: Election tribunals have granted approval for the nomination papers of prominent PTI leaders, Asad Qaiser and Taimur Saleem Jhagra, following appeals heard by Justice Shakeel Ahmed and Justice SM Atiq Shah, respectively.
PTI leader Asad Qaiser faced rejection of his nomination papers for NA-19 and PK-50 National Assembly constituencies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, the Election Tribunal, led by Justice Shakeel Ahmed, accepted Asad Qaiser's appeal, marking a crucial development for the PTI leader.
Meanwhile, the tribunal, under the jurisdiction of Justice SM Atiq Shah, validated the documents of Taimur Saleem Jhagra for three constituencies, overturning the initial rejection by the Returning Officer. Taimur Saleem Jhagra's nomination papers for National Assembly Constituency NA 28 and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Constituencies PK 75 and 79 were initially dismissed.
Further approvals by election tribunals include the acceptance of former provincial minister Shaukat Yousafzai's nomination papers, successful appeals by former MNA Sher Ali Arbab, and validation of PTI Hangu president Yusuf Khan's papers for NA-36 Hangu.
Justice Mirza Waqas Rauf, heading the Election Tribunal in Rawalpindi, declared all Tehreek-e-Insaf candidates' nomination papers as valid. Notable approvals include former Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi, Major Tahir Sadiq, Naz Sadiq, former Law Minister Basharat Raja, Colonel Ajmal Saber, Murtaza Sati, Tariq Murtaza, Seemabiya Tahir, and former Minister Raja Rashid Hafeez from PP 15.
The Election Tribunal in Rawalpindi also gave the go-ahead to Fawzia Bahram from Constituency PP 23 Chakwal, rejecting objections raised by the Returning Officer and allowing her to contest the election.
As the ongoing hearings in election tribunals continue, candidates' appeals against the rejection of nomination papers are expected to be decided by January 10, with four days remaining for the announcement of all decisions.
