Electricity Companies Seek Massive Tariff Hike

Islamabad: Electricity distribution companies have submitted a plea to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking a staggering Rs46.99 billion increase in electricity prices. The proposed hike is for the last quarter of the previous fiscal year.

According to NEPRA, the power companies have demanded Rs22.86 billion for capacity payments, Rs4 billion for operations and maintenance, Rs7.51 billion for system use charges and marketing fees, Rs7.51 billion for transmission and distribution losses, and Rs10.80 billion for other expenses.

NEPRA is scheduled to conduct a hearing on August 26 to deliberate on the demands for capacity charges, transmission losses, line repairs, and system usage fees. The outcome of the hearing will significantly impact electricity bills for consumers.
