Federal Minister Takes Action Against Contaminated Wheat Import

Islamabad: Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain has taken notice of the issue surrounding wheat contaminated with insects, further intensifying the scrutiny against those involved in its importation.

Upon the directive of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Food Security has formed a high-level investigative committee to probe into the matter of wheat contaminated with insects.

The three-member committee will be chaired by Food Commissioner Syed Wasim ul Hasan.

According to a spokesperson from the Ministry of Food Security, the investigative committee will conduct transparent inquiries into the importation of wheat contaminated with insects.

The committee will present a comprehensive report on the flawed and contaminated wheat imports, said the Ministry's spokesperson.

Transparent investigations will be carried out to determine those responsible for the flawed and substandard wheat imports, added the spokesperson.

During the tenure of the current government, approximately 1.3 million metric tons of wheat contaminated with insects were imported.

The financial value of the contaminated wheat runs into billions of rupees.
