Finance Minister announces revised levy on petrol and diesel
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb announced a revised increase in the levy on petrol and diesel to Rs 70 per liter. This change was revealed during his closing speech on budget amendments in the National Assembly.
Originally proposed at Rs 80, the levy on petrol and diesel has been scaled back to Rs 70. Aurangzeb also highlighted the government's commitment to promoting green energy, confirming that there will be no duty on solar panels.
Key economic indicators were shared, with inflation dropping from 38% to 18% and foreign exchange reserves reaching $9 billion. The Finance Minister emphasized the need to raise the tax-to-GDP ratio from 9.5% to 13%.
Aurangzeb also addressed plans for digital reforms, aiming to eliminate tax evasion and corruption within the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). The government's privatization plan is set for implementation over the next 2 to 3 years in a phased manner.
