First Phase of Privatization to Include PIA and Women Bank: Senate Committee Reveals

ISLAMABAD, July 12: The Privatization Commission has unveiled its strategic plan for the first phase of privatization, targeting four major institutions, including Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and the Women Bank.
In a recent Senate Standing Committee meeting led by Senator Talal Chaudhry, Secretary of Privatization Jawad Pal presented the ministry’s performance update. Chaudhry highlighted the critical role privatization could play in rejuvenating the national economy, which he described as being "stuck in a vortex."
Senator Mohsin Aziz echoed this sentiment, expressing a commitment to collaborative efforts for the country’s benefit.
Secretary Pal provided a historical overview, noting that the Privatization Commission Ordinance was enacted in 2000. He emphasized that the Commission, which previously operated under the Finance Division from 1991 to 2000, now has a fully functional board with no vacancies.
The committee's focus is now on moving forward with the privatization of these key institutions to stimulate economic recovery.
