Fuel Prices Likely to Rise by Rs5 Per Liter from July 1

Petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan are expected to increase by up to Rs5 per liter starting July 1, according to official sources familiar with the matter.
The anticipated price hike comes as part of a broader fiscal adjustment, which includes the implementation of a new carbon levy and the impact of recent currency fluctuations.
Carbon Levy and Exchange Rate Contributing to Price Hike
A *carbon levy of Rs2.50 per liter* is expected to be added to the prices of petrol, diesel, and furnace oil beginning tomorrow. Additionally, the *Pakistani rupee’s depreciation* against the US dollar—an increase of 81 paisas—has added further upward pressure on fuel costs.
The *Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA)* is currently finalizing a pricing proposal, which includes these adjustments. The working paper will be submitted to the government today for review.
“The final decision on the price adjustment will be made by the Prime Minister,” a source confirmed.
Awaiting Prime Minister’s Approval
As per standard procedure, OGRA’s recommendations are reviewed by the finance and petroleum divisions before being presented to the Prime Minister for final approval. If endorsed, the new prices will take effect from *midnight tonight (July 1, 2025).
This would mark the first price revision for petroleum products in the new fiscal year, coinciding with the implementation of budgetary measures announced earlier this month.
