GB Chief Minister Appeals to PM for Financial Aid to Resolve Universities' Crisis

Islamabad: Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Haji Gulbar Khan, has written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, seeking urgent financial assistance to address the severe financial crises faced by Karakoram International University and Baltistan University.

In the letter, CM Khan highlighted the pressing need for a solution to the financial difficulties of both universities, which are critical for providing education and research opportunities to over 10,000 students. He emphasized that the grant for Karakoram International University has been stagnant at 430 million rupees since 2018, leading to significant financial strain.

CM Khan requested the transfer of one billion rupees from the Gilgit-Baltistan Council funds to the provincial government to establish endowment funds for the universities. He stressed that the financial support would enable uninterrupted higher education for students in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Due to limited resources, the provincial government is unable to provide permanent financial support to both universities. Therefore, CM Khan urged the Prime Minister to facilitate the transfer of funds from the Gilgit-Baltistan Council to ensure the operational sustainability and quality of education at Karakoram International University and Baltistan University.
