GDA announces sit-in against alleged election rigging, demands fresh polls

KARACHI, Feb 18 : The Grand Democrat Alliance (GDA) has declared a sit-in slated for February 20, denouncing purported election rigging and demanding fresh, impartial elections. Sardar Abdul Rahim, Information Secretary of GDA, extended appreciation to participating political parties in the Jamshoro sit-in, affirming unwavering commitment to uphold democratic principles.
Addressing attendees at the GDA sit-in held at Jamshoro Toll Plaza, GDA President Pir Syed Sibghatullah Shah Rashidi Pirpagara expressed dismay over the alleged manipulation of the 2024 elections. He highlighted his abstention from election activities, citing concerns over premeditated outcomes and financial improprieties.
"This election has underscored a shift from national to provincial-level leadership," declared Pirpagara, emphasizing the constitutional right to protest against electoral malpractice. He criticized the perceived lack of intervention by authorities in addressing rampant buying and selling of votes, urging a reevaluation of leadership dynamics.
Pirpagara questioned the efficacy of the Election Commission in overseeing fair elections, contrasting the scrutiny faced by PTI's intra-party elections with the apparent oversight in general elections. While acknowledging criticisms of Imran Khan's leadership, Pirpagara refrained from labeling him a "thief," asserting that mistakes are inherent to human nature.
As the GDA mobilizes for its forthcoming sit-in, the call for electoral transparency resonates across political lines, signaling a unified stance against perceived injustices in the electoral process.
