Global Importers Mandate Environmental Compliance for Pakistani Furniture Exporters

LAHORE, Aug 25: Kashif Ashfaq, Chief Executive Officer of the Pakistan Furniture Council, has announced that global importers are now linking their purchasing decisions to climate reporting compliance starting October 2023. He emphasized that producers must adhere to these standards by 2026.

Speaking with a delegation of businesswomen led by Hafsa Abdullah, Ashfaq explained that this shift reflects a broader trend where multinational companies are focusing on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria within their supply chains. This move underscores the growing demand for transparency in environmental practices in production processes.

Ashfaq urged Pakistani exporters to align with these requirements, as importers are emphasizing that suppliers must meet global environmental standards beyond local regulations. He warned that failure to comply could result in reduced orders or, in some cases, severed business relationships. Adopting these standards promptly can provide Pakistani producers with a competitive edge and prevent falling behind in the environmentally conscious global market.
