Govt imposes ban on media coverage outside Adiala Jail
Rawalpindi, March 12: Authorities have imposed a ban on media coverage outside Adiala Jail, preventing journalists from reporting on meetings with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. Today marks a crucial day for meetings with the former prime minister, yet police have erected barriers and installed barricades, restricting media access to the area.
Security officials on-site have confirmed the prohibition of Rawalpindi media from covering events near the jail premises, directing media teams to relocate approximately 2 kilometers away. Meanwhile, PTI leader and National Assembly member Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has appealed to the Islamabad High Court to facilitate a meeting with Imran Khan. Notably, PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan, Secretary General Umar Ayub, and Secretary Shibli Faraz are among those seeking to meet the party founder.
Following a court hearing, Barrister Gohar emphasized the significance of consulting with Imran Khan regarding the upcoming Senate elections. He expressed optimism in the judiciary's ability to deliver justice swiftly, highlighting the need for fair proceedings. Additionally, he raised concerns over the legality and constitutionality of the trial proceedings, urging the judiciary to intervene and ensure justice prevails.
This development follows a recent contempt of court case against the Superintendent of Adiala Jail for purportedly obstructing lawyers from meeting Imran Khan. During the court proceedings, Jail Superintendent Asad Waraich assured that lawyers would not be barred from meeting the PTI founder.
As tensions escalate and legal battles continue, the fate of Imran Khan and the ongoing political landscape remain under close scrutiny, with expectations high for a fair and transparent resolution.
