Govt official killed in Kahota bus robbery; driver injured

RAWALPINDI, April 25 (INP): A government official was tragically killed during a robbery on a passenger bus in Kahota police station area, while the bus driver sustained injuries late last night.

According to police, the bus, en route from Forward Kahota, Azad Kashmir to Lahore, deviated from its original route during the night in an attempt to take a shortcut. This led the bus into a trap set by bandits who had established a roadblock.

Upon encountering the roadblock, the robbers quickly surrounded the bus and proceeded to rob passengers of cash and mobile phones. Amid the chaos, one brave passenger attempted to apprehend a robber. In response, the robbers opened fire, fatally injuring the passenger, identified as a government official. The bus driver was also wounded by a bullet to the stomach.

Following the robbery, the assailants fled the scene. Upon receiving the alert, SHO Kahota, accompanied by Inspector Aziz Aslam Nifri, rushed to the spot. The deceased passenger's body and the injured driver were immediately transported to the hospital.

Police have initiated an investigation into the incident, collecting evidence from the scene as they pursue the robbers.
