ICC finalizes teams for ICCT20 World Cup 2026; Pakistan secures direct entry

DUBAI, July 02: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the lineup of 12 teams for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026, slated to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
In a historic move, Pakistan has secured direct entry into the tournament, bypassing the qualifying rounds for the first time in their T20 World Cup history. This development comes as part of the ICC's decision to include 20 teams, divided into four groups, similar to this year's format.
India and Sri Lanka will share the hosting duties, while teams including Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, West Indies, New Zealand, Afghanistan, and Ireland have also clinched automatic berths.
Eight other teams will compete in the qualifying round to secure their spots in the prestigious event, aiming to join the elite lineup.
Earlier this year, India emerged victorious in the T20 World Cup by defeating South Africa in a thrilling final, capturing the title for the second time.
This announcement sets the stage for an exhilarating tournament, highlighting cricket's global reach and competitive spirit.
