IHC Orders Removal of Shireen Mazari's Name from ECL
Islamabad, April 4: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued an order for the removal of former Federal Minister Shireen Mazari's name from the Exit Control List (ECL). The decision came during a hearing held in response to a request seeking the removal of Mazari's name from the ECL, citing her non-involvement in the £190 million NAB case.
During the hearing, the Assistant Attorney General informed the court that they had communicated the recommendation to remove Mazari's name from the ECL to the Prime Minister in a letter dated March 27. Responding to this, Justice Taman Rifat Imtiaz commented on the government's priorities, stating that "the cabinet has many other tasks to do. We do it."
Consequently, the Islamabad High Court ordered the immediate removal of Shireen Mazari's name from the ECL, effectively disposing of the application.
This decision follows a previous directive from the Islamabad High Court to remove Mazari's name from the Passport Control List (PCL). The court had instructed the removal of her name from the PCL, which was duly implemented. A compliance report detailing the execution of the court's order was submitted to the Deputy Registrar Judicial of the High Court.
The removal of Shireen Mazari's name from both the ECL and PCL underscores the court's commitment to ensuring due process and justice.
