IMF mission visited the AGP and FBR, where they were briefed on efforts related to transparency and digitalization

A visiting delegation of IMF experts met with the Auditor General of Pakistan to receive a briefing on the audit process and transparency in the public sector.
The IMF mission is in Pakistan conducting a Governance and Corruption Diagnostic Assessment (GCDA), as previously announced by the Ministry of Finance. During their visit, the IMF team was informed that Parliament plays a central role in public sector audits and accountability. Following parliamentary tradition, the opposition is tasked with overseeing government institutions, with the Leader of the Opposition or their nominee typically heading the Public Accounts Committee.
The IMF mission also held discussions with officials from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), who provided an update on the ongoing digitalization efforts within the taxation authority. FBR officials emphasized the push for greater transparency through tax reforms.
The delegation further met with officials from the Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), who briefed them on improvements in business practices within the corporate sector and the stock market.
Additionally, the mission visited the Ministry of Climate Change and met with the housing and works department, where they were briefed on the digitalization of land records in the country.
The IMF mission’s visit is part of its ongoing efforts to assess governance and corruption challenges in Pakistan, with a final report due in July that will highlight areas in need of improvement.
