Imran Khan Files Petition to Keep May 9 Cases in Civilian Courts

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court against the potential transfer of his arrest to military custody. The petition, submitted by his lawyer Uzair Karamat, names the federal government and the Inspectors General (IGs) of all four provinces as respondents.
Imran Khan's petition argues that the custody in cases related to the events of May 9 could be handed over to the Army. He requests the court to ensure that these cases remain under the jurisdiction of civilian courts and to issue an injunction preventing their transfer to military authorities.
In a statement yesterday, Imran Khan claimed that a false narrative had been constructed to incite protests against him at General Headquarters (GHQ). He described the events of May 9 as a "false flag operation" and asserted that the real perpetrators are those who stole the CCTV footage from that day. Khan compared the situation to the US Capitol Hill protests on January 6, 2021, highlighting that only the individuals directly involved were punished following a transparent investigation, without implicating the entire Republican Party.
