Islamabad Court Grants 2-Day Remand for PTI’s Rauf Hassan

ISLAMABAD: The District and Sessions Court of Islamabad has approved a 2-day physical remand for PTI Central Information Secretary Rauf Hassan, handing him over to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The court also approved a similar remand for other male PTI workers, while two female workers were sent to jail on judicial remand.
The FIA produced Rauf Hassan before Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah, with PTI’s lawyer Latif Khosa arguing against the remand. Khosa contended that the case against Hassan was baseless, emphasizing that Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was recognized as a political party by the Supreme Court. He also criticized the seizure of PTI’s office equipment and claimed that the detained workers were being unjustly targeted.
FIA prosecutors requested the remand to recover social media devices and conduct further investigation, potentially extending the remand to 30 days. However, Khosa argued that Hassan’s involvement with the media cell was nonexistent and that the case lacked substantial evidence.
The court reserved its decision on a 10-day remand request by the FIA and later issued a 2-day remand for Hassan. Chairman PTI Barrister Gohar Ali Khan was present in the courtroom during the proceedings.
Khosa criticized the FIA’s actions, questioning the need for further remand without evidence of criminal activity. The case continues to attract significant attention amid ongoing political tensions.
