Islamabad High Court Reserves Verdict on Petition to Halt Justice Jahanjiri's Work
Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reserved its decision on the admissibility of a petition seeking to halt Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri from performing his duties.
Chief Justice Aamer Farooq presided over the hearing of the petition filed by Advocate Mian Dawood, which challenges Justice Jahangiri's appointment and requests verification of his academic credentials.
During the hearing, Advocate Mian Dawood argued that he has contested Justice Jahangiri's appointment. Chief Justice Farooq noted that the Registrar's Office had raised objections to the petition, questioning its maintainability against the Judicial Commission.
The Chief Justice remarked that the Registrar's Office should have focused on whether a writ of quo warranto against a high court judge is admissible. Advocate Dawood insisted that his plea is about verifying the judge's qualifications, citing the 1998 Supreme Court decision in the Sajjad Ali Shah case as a precedent.
Chief Justice Farooq directed the advocate to argue on the admissibility of the petition rather than its merits. Subsequently, the court reserved its decision on whether the petition to verify Justice Jahangiri's academic credentials and halt his work is maintainable.
