Islamabad Reports First Polio Case in 16 Years
ISLAMABAD, Sep 06: For the first time in 16 years, a case of polio has been reported in the federal capital. The virus was detected in a child from Union Council 4, marking the first such case in Islamabad since 2008. Nationwide, this is the 17th polio case reported this year.
Ayesha Raza Farooq, the Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication, expressed concern over the new case and affirmed that the government has devised a comprehensive plan to curb the virus's spread. She announced that a vaccination campaign will commence on September 9, targeting 115 districts with a goal to immunize 30 million children.
In a related update, Anwar-ul-Haq, Coordinator of the National Emergency Operations Center, emphasized efforts to accelerate the distribution of polio vaccines to every child.
