Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Stresses on Neutral Establishment in Elections for Credibility"

Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Sirajul Haque, emphasized the need for the establishment to maintain neutrality in the upcoming elections in his recent interview with an American broadcasting organization.

Haque expressed concerns about potential unrest and turmoil if the electoral process lacks transparency, underscoring the importance of impartiality from the establishment and other state institutions to uphold the credibility of the elections.

Reflecting on the 2018 elections, Haque noted the extensive involvement of the establishment in forming the government and urged a shift towards neutrality in the current election. He highlighted the significance of the judiciary and the Election Commission remaining impartial for the overall reputation of these institutions.

He acknowledged that the army has faced criticism for its role in bringing the 2018 government to power. He mentioned that the army will decide on joining the government coalition or opting for the opposition post the upcoming election.

Anticipating the participation of numerous parties in the National Assembly, Haque mentioned that Jamaat-e-Islami, having fielded over 700 candidates nationwide, will decide its stance based on the election results. This marks the first time that Jamaat's candidates are contesting in such substantial numbers.
