Jeddah Airport Sees Record 5.3 Million Umrah Pilgrims During Peak Season

King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah has successfully handled a record 5.3 million pilgrims during the recent five-week Umrah peak season, which ran from March 1 to April 5, 2025. This remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone in the logistics and operational capabilities of the airport during the busiest period of the year for religious travel.

Efficient Operations Amid High Demand

According to Eng. Mazen Johar, CEO of Jeddah Airports Company, the airport’s operational strategies and careful planning ensured smooth processes, reducing wait times and expediting the Umrah procedures for millions of visitors. He credited the success of the season to the collaboration between various agencies and the dedicated efforts of all those involved in the airport’s operations.

The Umrah season saw an unprecedented number of passengers transit through the airport terminals. In addition to handling 5.3 million pilgrims, the airport processed 6.4 million pieces of baggage and supported the operations of over 31,500 flights. These figures underscore the significant logistical challenge the airport undertook to ensure seamless services for pilgrims traveling to and from the holy city of Makkah.

Leadership and Coordination

Eng. Johar attributed the success of the operation to the wise leadership and ongoing oversight of Saudi authorities. He highlighted the importance of the continuous support from the Emirate of Makkah, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, the President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), and the CEO of Matarat Holding Company. Their collaboration, he stated, played a key role in meeting the operational goals set for the season.

Collective Effort for Success

In his remarks, Johar emphasized that the efforts of all personnel at King Abdulaziz International Airport, including government, security, and operational staff, were integral to achieving the successful handling of such a large influx of pilgrims. He also acknowledged the spirit of teamwork that enabled the airport to meet its goals and deliver services that aligned with the high standards set for the Umrah season.

Looking forward, Johar confirmed that the airport’s operational strategies would continue to be implemented, ensuring that passenger movement remains efficient and smooth in future peak seasons.

This achievement highlights the increasing capacity of Saudi Arabia’s infrastructure to accommodate religious tourism, as millions of Muslims from around the world come to perform Umrah, a key religious duty that attracts millions annually.
