Lahore Tandoor Owners Defy Government's Reduced Bread Prices

LAHORE - A simmering dispute has erupted in Lahore between tandoor owners and the Punjab government over recently implemented bread price reductions.

The Muttahida Nanbai Association, representing tandoor owners, has rejected the government's mandated price of Rs 14 for bread and Rs 20 for naan. Citing rising production costs, they refuse to sell below Rs 15 for bread.

This defiance has resulted in a price discrepancy across Lahore's tandoors. While roti is being sold at the government-fixed Rs 14, naan and kalcha are being offered at Rs 25 and Rs 30 respectively, exceeding the official rates.

The situation has sparked a wave of complaints from residents regarding the inflated prices of non-roti bread items.

Deputy Commissioner Lahore, Rafia Haider, has asserted the government's stance. She emphasized that bread and naan will be sold at the designated prices and that authorities are actively monitoring compliance.

This ongoing standoff threatens to leave consumers caught in the middle, facing potentially higher bread prices unless a resolution is reached.
