Lawyer Denies Imran Khan’s Release Before Eid Amidst Court Proceedings

Naeem Haider Panjotha, legal counsel for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has dismissed circulating rumours suggesting Khan’s release before Eid, asserting that no such deal or leniency is being offered. Panjotha emphasized that Khan remains steadfast in his commitment to the nation, stating, “For the country, it’s either jail or dialogue — but a deal is out of the question.”
No Deal or Leniency Offered
Addressing the media following a session at the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Rawalpindi concerning the May 9 cases, Panjotha clarified that there is no agreement or concession in place regarding Khan’s release. He recounted an incident three years prior where Khan was offered a deal to remain silent for three years in exchange for resolution of his issues, to which Khan firmly responded, “Not even for three minutes will I remain silent.”
Court Adjourns May 9 Cases Until June 14
In related legal proceedings, the ATC adjourned hearings for 11 cases associated with the May 9 incidents until June 14. The prosecutor informed the court that copies of the charge sheets were being provided to accused individuals who had not yet received them. Imran Khan’s attendance was facilitated through a jail-issued production order.
Khan’s Stance on Accountability
Panjotha further revealed that Khan was advised in prison to apologize for the May 9 events for matters to be resolved. Khan responded by demanding, “Bring the footage of May 9, and whoever is responsible should be severely punished. The one who orchestrated May 9 should be the one to apologize.”
Constitutional Amendments and Political Dynamics
The lawyer also criticized the 26th constitutional amendment, alleging it was designed to protect a fraudulent election and punish PTI. He warned of potential threats regarding a 27th amendment, asserting, “Amend as much as you want, disqualify as many members of parliament or senators as you wish — we will not bow down.”
Opposition Leader Served Notice
Additionally, Panjotha disclosed that Leader of the Opposition Omar Ayub has been served a notice under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution, indicating ongoing political and legal challenges for PTI leadership.
As the legal proceedings continue, Panjotha reiterated that no negotiations are taking place regarding Khan’s release, and all claims of a release before Eid are baseless. He emphasized that Khan’s position remains unchanged: “If justice is not served, the judiciary will be held responsible.”
