LESCO 12 Employees Penalized for Negligence and Corruption
LAHORE, Aug 25: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) in a decisive move to uphold integrity and accountability has imposed various penalties on 12 employees for negligence and involvement in corruption over the past week.
According to a LESCO spokesperson, the disciplinary actions were taken against staff from three different subdivisions: four employees from Shad Bagh, five from Jia Bagga, and three from Nankana.
In Shad Bagh Subdivision, Meter Reader Ejaz Hussain Shah was forcibly retired for his involvement in electricity theft. Assistant Lineman Usama Saleem faced a one-year freeze on his salary increment due to overbilling and failure to meet recovery targets. Additionally, Meter Reader Javed Iqbal was demoted for one year, and Assistant Lineman Faisal Altaf had his salary increment halted for a year.
In Jia Bagga Subdivision, Assistant Lineman Mohsin Raza was dismissed from his job for failing to meet recovery responsibilities. Linemen Imran Hussain, Samuel Pervez, and Mansoor Ahmed were demoted by two grades for two years. Similarly, Lineman Muhammad Nadeem was demoted to the position of Assistant Lineman for a two-year period.
Further disciplinary actions were taken by Chief Engineer Operations, Abbas Ali, who dismissed three employees in connection with the death of Lineman Shahbaz. Following an investigation, LS-2 Zafar Iqbal, LS-2 Karamat Ali, and Lineman Shehzad were found responsible for the incident and were subsequently terminated.
The LESCO spokesperson added that the actions were taken under the directives of LESCO CEO Engineer Shahid Haider, who had formed a special investigative committee to probe the circumstances surrounding Lineman Shahbaz’s death. The committee's findings led to the dismissal of the three guilty employees.
He further stated that this move by LESCO highlights the company’s commitment to combating corruption and ensuring that its workforce upholds the highest standards of professionalism and accountability.
