LHC orders case against punjab home secretary in ex-wife's rape allegation

Lahore, June 27: A high-profile legal battle is unfolding as the Lahore High Court issues a notice against Punjab Home Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal following allegations of sexual assault made by his ex-wife, Ambreen Sardar.
Justice Farooq Haider presided over the hearing, where the court mandated the presence of the South Cantonment SHO and the Home Secretary on September 5. The directive came in response to Ambreen Sardar's plea to register a rape case against Mengal, alleging that he engaged in sexual relations with her secretly after their divorce.
Sardar's lawyer argued that despite her efforts, the police failed to act on her complaint. The Lahore High Court overturned the previous order by the Justice of Peace, instructing authorities to file a case against Mengal.
This case brings significant attention to issues of domestic violence and the legal challenges faced by survivors in seeking justice.
