LHC orders permanent closure of shops selling dead chickens in Tolinton Market
LAHORE, June 05: The Lahore High Court has mandated the permanent sealing of shops in Tolinton Market found selling dead chickens. The order, issued by Justice Shahid Karim, came as part of a broader smog case.
The court's written directive references a report from the Punjab Food Authority, revealing that a significant number of dead chickens were destroyed in the market. The court has also called for an investigation into the waste disposal practices of Tolinton Market and requested a detailed report on market cleanliness.
The case was initiated following a raid directed by the Director General of the Punjab Food Authority. During the raid, trucks and shops supplying chickens were inspected. Authorities sealed two shops and arrested two suppliers involved in selling sick and dead chickens. Officials reported the recovery of 800 kg of dead chickens, which were being concealed among healthy ones.
Additionally, the court has instructed the Punjab Horticultural Authority (PHA) to submit a report on the maintenance of government parks, to be reviewed alongside reports from local committees.
