Massive Oil Theft Scandal Unveiled in Joint Pakistan-Emirates Venture
Karachi: Shocking revelations have come to light regarding the embezzlement of billions of rupees worth of oil from a joint venture between the Government of Pakistan and the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Despite the registration of eight cases against the oil theft mafia in the past year, law enforcement agencies have failed to apprehend the key players involved in this extensive theft.
The government of Pakistan holds a 60% stake in the project, with the Emirate of Abu Dhabi owning the remaining 40% through its Mubadala Investment Company.
The intricate network of the oil theft operation spans 2000 kilometers from Karachi to Machhi near Lahore. Both government institutions and individuals within the mafia are implicated in this corruption, inserting devices into the project to siphon off thousands of liters of petrol and diesel. The stolen fuel is then clandestinely sold at various petrol pumps across the Sindh province.
Despite the formation of more than three inquiry committees by Sindh police officers, the loss of billions of rupees to the public treasury continues unabated.
The oil theft mafia, responsible for substantial losses in the Parco Pipeline project, operates actively in the Malir and Kemari districts of Karachi, involving over 20 individuals in an organized and formidable manner.
Billions of rupees have been pilfered from the Pakistan-Abu Dhabi venture over the past few months. Cases of theft have been registered in police stations such as Shah Latif, Shrafi Goth, Bin Qasim, Steel Town, and Derakhshan in the South district. Unfortunately, due to police indifference, these cases have been confined to paperwork.
Statements from individuals involved in the Parco pipeline oil theft network reveal that the mafia can fill a 40,000-liter tanker with petrol or diesel in just 15 to 20 minutes. On January 13, 2024, a case (Case No. 10/24) was registered at Bin Qasim police station against Parco employee Mohammad Haroon. The accused, including Abdul Wahab, Javed, and Hasan Jatoi, have not been apprehended.
