NA-171 by-elections, voting delayed at several polling stations due to mismanagement

On Thursday morning, the by-election for NA-171 Rahim Yar Khan-III faced delays at several polling stations due to mismanagement. Stations 103, 104, 105, and 260 did not open on time as voters were unable to enter, and security officials outside were unresponsive when questioned about the delays.

This by-election was triggered by the passing of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Mumtaz Mustafa, who died of a cardiac arrest in Islamabad on August 4.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had prepared for the election by delivering polling materials and setting up a control room in Lahore to monitor the process. With 526,973 registered voters, the ECP had arranged 301 polling stations for the election. To maintain order, the district administration has enforced Section 144 CrPC from September 11 to 13, closing all public offices, schools, and commercial areas within the constituency.

Polling began at 8 am and is scheduled to run until 5 pm without any breaks.
