NAB appeals “IHC” decision on reduced disqualification period
ISLAMABAD, Jan 02: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has lodged an appeal with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) challenging the recent decision of a single bench to diminish the disqualification period for NAB convicts from 10 to 5 years, enabling them to participate in elections. The appeal has been accepted for hearing, and proceedings are scheduled for tomorrow, with Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Taman Rifat Imtiaz presiding over the case.
NAB, in its intra-court appeal, urges the court to promptly suspend the single bench's decision. It contends that election candidates, previously convicted by NAB, are leveraging the High Court's decision to justify their participation in upcoming elections. The single bench had, in June, reduced the disqualification period from ten years to five, prompting NAB to seek an immediate suspension of the decision through the intra-court appeal.
