NAB launches probe into Walton Airport Closure

LAHORE, June 06: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore Circle has initiated a thorough investigation into the closure of Walton Airport, targeting former Director General Khaqan Murtaza and other officials from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
According to media reports, NAB has formulated a set of 13 critical questions to interrogate Khaqan Murtaza regarding the decision to shut down the historic airport and repurpose it for commercial activities. The probe seeks to uncover the underlying reasons for the closure and to determine whether any irregularities were involved.
NAB Lahore has also reached out to the Aircraft Owners and Operators Association, requesting their assistance in the investigation. Officials from NAB have already sent a detailed questionnaire to the association, aiming to gather comprehensive insights and data relevant to the case.
This development follows the Civil Aviation Authority's directive in May 2021 to cease operations at Walton Airport, subsequently grounding all aircraft and directing flying clubs to halt their activities. The decision has since sparked controversy and now, an official inquiry.
