OGDCL increases local production of oil and gas, to reduce import bill
SLAMABAD, May 18: The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a substantial increase in local production of oil and gas. The surge in production, attributed to breakthroughs in district KarkNashpa well No. 10, has propelled total oil production to 1870 barrels per day, while total gas production has soared to over 70 lakh cubic feet per day.
The spokesperson for OGDCL revealed that the newfound reserves have contributed to the surge in production, marking a significant milestone in the nation's energy independence. Integration of the additional gas production into the Sui Northern network signifies a tangible step towards bolstering domestic energy reserves and reducing reliance on imports.
With this surge in local production, Pakistan stands to benefit economically, with the import bill expected to shrink by a staggering 30 million dollars per year. This achievement underscores the recent strides made in discovering and harnessing oil and gas reserves across the country.
Notably, on April 22, 2024, Mari Petroleum made headlines by discovering oil reserves for the first time in 47 years. The Shawal One well in Deharki, Ghotki district, Sindh, proved to be a game-changer, with projections of 2.5 million standard cubic feet of gas per day and 1040 barrels of crude oil per day.
Furthermore, Mari Petroleum's recent discovery of gas in Mari Gasij Sindh adds to the country's burgeoning gas reserves, further solidifying Pakistan's position as a key player in the regional energy landscape.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Petroleum Company (PPL) has been instrumental in boosting production from various gas and crude oil wells in Sindh and Balochistan. Leveraging advanced techniques and technology, PPL has increased gas production by 17 mmcfd and crude oil production by 530 mmcfd from October 2023 to March 2024.
PPL's efforts have yielded notable results, with increases in crude oil production from the Dhi field, gas production from the Hala block Adhi field, and gas production from iconic fields like Sui and Gambit South. These achievements underscore the concerted efforts to enhance domestic energy production and propel Pakistan towards self-sufficiency in the oil and gas sector.
