Onion hits record high at Rs. 330 per kg in Peshawar

Peshawar, Jan 21: The city of Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed a significant surge in the prices of essential commodities, with onions reaching an unprecedented high of Rs. 330 per kilogram, marking an increase from Rs. 300.

The cost of living continues to rise, impacting everyday items, with potatoes priced between Rs. 80 to Rs. 100 per kilogram, tomatoes at Rs. 200, ginger and garlic at Rs. 600 per kilogram, and cauliflower at Rs. 200. Brinjals, commonly known as eggplants, are being sold at Rs. 150.

Furthermore, the price of live chicken has surged to Rs. 455 per kilogram, and the cost of a single egg has reached up to Rs. 50.

Alarming reports also come in from Sethi Town's Hussein Chowk, where butchers have initiated a spree of profiteering. The price of meat has skyrocketed, ranging from Rs. 850 to Rs. 1000 per kilogram. Surprisingly, the local administration and the food department officials seem to be absent, neglecting their duty to examine and regulate prices.

The citizens of Peshawar are left grappling with the economic challenges posed by this sharp inflation in basic commodities, while authorities remain seemingly indifferent to the growing concerns.
