Pak-US Higher Education Summit Kicks Off in Islamabad

Islamabad: U.S. Chargé d'Affaires Andrew J. Schofer inaugurated the three-day International Summit on Higher Education today, alongside Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed and University of Utah professors. Funded by USAID, the summit gathers over 180 leaders and faculty from Pakistani and American universities to enhance higher education quality and student employability. This initiative is part of USAID’s $19 million Higher Education System Strengthening Activity, aimed at improving management, instruction, and support services in 16 Pakistani public universities.

In his opening remarks, Schofer highlighted the pivotal role of higher education in Pakistan’s economic development. “Higher education institutions have an essential role to play in Pakistan’s development. When universities deliver equitable education, provide youth with employment-ready skills, and lead in applied research and innovation, both individuals and society prosper,” he stated. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed lauded the partnership between the University of Utah and Pakistani universities for fostering cross-border idea exchange and innovation.
