Pakistan defends Imran Khan's detention as internal matter amid UN criticism

Islamabad, July 02: Federal Law Minister Senator Azam Nazir Tarar has reaffirmed Pakistan's stance on Imran Khan's arrest, dismissing international concerns as the country's internal affair.
The Geneva-based United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention recently criticized Imran Khan's arrest and pending cases, calling for his release. In response, Minister Tarar emphasized Pakistan's sovereignty and adherence to constitutional and legal procedures.
Minister Tarar stated that Imran Khan, as a founder of PTI, is subject to the country's laws and judicial process, which have granted him rights as per international norms. He highlighted the judiciary's role in ensuring a transparent and fair trial, citing multiple instances of relief granted to Khan.
The remarks come amid ongoing legal proceedings involving Imran Khan, currently serving time in jail, as the government continues to defend its actions in accordance with national laws.
This reaffirms Pakistan's position on internal legal matters while addressing international scrutiny over the high-profile case.
