Pakistan Downs 25 Israeli-Made Drones Amid Escalating Tensions with India

Pakistan’s military has successfully shot down 25 drones of Israeli origin launched from Indian territory over the past two days, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The escalation underscores rising hostilities between the two neighboring countries, with the armed forces warning of serious consequences for further violations.

Multiple Drone Attacks Across Major Cities

The ISPR confirmed that the drones targeted various regions across Pakistan, including Lahore, Chakwal, Bahawalpur, Attock, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Mianwali, and areas near Karachi. Most drones were intercepted swiftly by the military. However, one drone succeeded in partially engaging a military installation in Lahore, injuring four army personnel and causing minor equipment damage.

Tragically, a civilian lost their life in the Miano area of Sindh due to a drone strike, marking a rare instance of civilian fatality amid the escalating cross-border hostilities.

Panic in Lahore, Airspace Temporarily Closed

In Lahore, residents in Walton, Burki Road, and Defence areas reported loud explosions and heavy gunfire late on May 7, causing widespread panic. Sirens were sounded by security forces, prompting civilians to evacuate their homes in fear of further attacks. Emergency responders, including firefighting units, were dispatched to the impacted locations.

Amid the deteriorating security situation, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) has closed airspace over Lahore and Sialkot to commercial traffic. A formal Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) confirmed the shutdown of seven major flight corridors, with the closure expected to remain in effect until 6 PM on Thursday.

Military Spokesperson Condemns Indian Actions

Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of the ISPR, addressed the media, stating that India was acting under a “false impression of Pakistan’s weakness.” He asserted that the Pakistan Armed Forces were fully prepared and equipped to counter all forms of aggression.

“We are determined and fully capable of teaching a lesson to those who display such aggression,” he said. He warned that any future violation of Pakistan’s airspace would be treated as a deliberate act of aggression.

The military spokesperson also accused India of deliberately targeting civilian areas and religious sites, reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to protecting its citizens and territorial integrity.

Harop Drones Identified in Attacks

The drones used in the attacks were identified as Israeli-made Harop MK 2 loitering munitions, known for their precision strike capability. These drones are part of a broader military procurement by India, which has significantly expanded its drone arsenal over the past decade.

The Harop drone is designed to loiter over targets and strike once a threat is detected, and is equipped with both hard-kill and soft-kill features, making it a versatile and lethal tool in modern warfare.

Regional Tensions on the Rise

This recent surge in hostilities follows heightened tensions between India and Pakistan since late April, when a deadly attack in Indian-administered Kashmir led to increased military alertness on both sides. As both nations maintain heavily armed borders, analysts warn that further escalation could destabilize the region and draw international attention.

For now, Pakistan’s armed forces remain on high alert, with officials stating that any future incursions will be met with decisive military response.
