Pakistan to Receive World-Class Internet Services by 2026 with New Africa-1 Submarine Cable

In a groundbreaking move set to transform Pakistan’s digital landscape, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has successfully connected the country to the Africa-1 submarine cable, marking a significant milestone in the enhancement of Pakistan’s telecommunication and digital infrastructure.
The Africa-1 cable system, a state-of-the-art high-capacity submarine cable capable of transmitting vast amounts of data, is now linked to PTCL’s exchange in Karachi. This new connection promises to offer faster, more reliable international connectivity for Pakistan, opening up new avenues for businesses and consumers alike.
As part of this major leap forward, PTCL has officially joined the Africa-1 Cable System Consortium, a collaboration aimed at improving Pakistan’s access to critical global digital hubs. The consortium seeks to integrate the latest in digital technologies, helping Pakistan strengthen its position in the global telecom ecosystem.
Spanning an impressive 10,000 kilometers, the Africa-1 cable system connects Pakistan to some of the world’s most strategically significant locations, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Sudan, Algeria, France, Kenya, and Djibouti. These connections will not only enhance data exchange but also position Pakistan as a key player in the global digital market.
Syed Muhammad Shoaib, PTCL’s Group Vice President for International Business, shared his vision for the future, explaining that this project is a key part of Pakistan’s “Digital Vision 2030.” “We are committed to bridging the digital divide, fostering innovation across various sectors, and strengthening the country’s economy,” Shoaib said. “The Africa-1 cable system will play a pivotal role in enhancing internet speed, reliability, and global connectivity.”
Once operational in early 2026, the Africa-1 submarine cable will revolutionize internet services in Pakistan, offering world-class connectivity that will benefit both businesses and consumers. This development is expected to propel the country forward, positioning it as a hub for digital innovation in the region.
The project is more than just a technical achievement; it represents Pakistan’s commitment to advancing its digital infrastructure and positioning itself as a key player in the global digital economy. With the launch of the Africa-1 cable system, Pakistan is poised to embrace a future of faster, more reliable internet, unlocking new possibilities for growth, innovation, and connectivity.
