Pakistani Envoy Criticizes India’s Post-Pahalgam Response as ‘Lawless

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, has strongly condemned India’s actions following the Pahalgam attack, calling them a display of “lawlessness” and a breach of international norms.
Pakistan Reaffirms Right to Self-Defense
Speaking during televised interviews with Fox News and PBS, Ambassador Sheikh stated that India reacted with unprovoked aggression and without presenting any credible evidence linking Pakistan to the Pahalgam incident. “In response to Indian aggression, Pakistan carried out a strong defensive action,” he said.
He emphasized that Pakistan’s actions were consistent with its right to self-defense as outlined in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. “We reserve the right to respond at a time and manner of our choosing. We are a peace-loving nation, but we seek peace with dignity,” Sheikh added.
International Support for Impartial Investigation
The ambassador reiterated Pakistan’s demand for a transparent and impartial international investigation into the Pahalgam incident. He noted that Pakistan’s call for accountability has received positive recognition from the global community.
“India’s refusal to cooperate with an objective probe reflects a disregard for international law,” he remarked.
Call for U.S. Role in Kashmir Conflict
Highlighting the broader regional implications, Sheikh called on the United States to play a proactive role in resolving the long-standing Kashmir dispute. “As a global power, we expect the United States and President Trump to play a role in resolving the Kashmir issue,” he stated.
He argued that the conflict affects over 1.6 billion people across Pakistan and India and must be addressed in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
Diplomatic Outreach Intensifies
The ambassador’s remarks come amid growing diplomatic efforts by Pakistan to garner international support and to counter Indian narratives following heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
Pakistani officials have been engaging with key global stakeholders to stress the importance of de-escalation and the urgent need for peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.
